Absolute Value of Position

I have a top down machine.  I want my wiper to move across the surface and stay(X-300.), expose a layer, wiper return(X0.), expose and so on.  I need someone to correct my code.  Here's what I'm thinking:
G1X((abs of x)-300.)
What is the correct way to code this?
