4K UHD display

Shahin,

I've torn down my top-down 3D printer to replace components.  I do not want to use my Acer 1500 projector ever again.  I'm sick of the over curing problems, the heat, and the physical size.  It worked fairly well, but never perfectly.

I want to try 4K UHD to get even better resolution.  I haven't found any 4K UHD control boards (with cables and 5.5" 4K UHD LCD screen) that would use Raspberry Pi HDMI output to a specific MIPI-DSI interface.

After seeing demos of the ONO/(OLO) and the "myT3D" printer using smartphones and daylight resin, I wondered if this could be an option.  I know that neither of these printers are even available or possibly ever will be.  I could use a Sony Xperia Z5 Premium which has amazing 4K UHD graphics.  I print small things, so nothing larger would be needed.  The smartphone wouldn't be used to control things, just used as a projector display.

Is there anyway to redirect image output to something besides HDMI?  Such as USB tethering, LAN tethering or Wi-Fi tethering.  Or some other method that could handle a 4K UHD image?

If there is, which would you recommend?  Any examples of coding, config.txt, etc.?

Would nanoDLP needed to be changed?  I want to continue using nanoDLP.  It is awesome.

I do remember a guy prepared HTML page to refresh images and open it by his mobile phone but I think he abandoned idea as cure without additional UV lamps is very slow.
You can do the same thing if everything works we can prepare mobile APP to display images on cell phone.

As always, thank you for the quick reply.

I remember the post by ionel.ciobanuc in March regarding using HTML and I know that the 3D printers I mentioned are SLOW, but they do work.  I wondered if using a browser was the best method of connecting.  I never saw any more responses to his idea.  Maybe he could get into the discussion.

If I can get the phone to act as the display correctly then I can try to solve the timing problem.  The phone can be disassembled to give access to the LCD screen.  If done correctly, the built in backlight can be pried off very carefully and then a different backlight can be used.  I've seen this done many, many times on YouTube.  Naturally, the phone can't be reassembled to look like a phone, but everything will still be controlled by the phone.  So a mobile APP tied directly into nanoDLP should really help with the project.  It would allow a phone or tablet to be a display option.

How long would it take for your mobile APP to be available?

You are right, he was Ionel Ciobanuc. I believe HTML method was not perfect but it was fine for prototyping. I think we had working HTML example I am not sure if the final version is shared on the forum.
HTML method timing was not bad. For mobile APP if somebody come up with working hardware prototype I guess we could provide mobile app in a week or two.

I think make it work without any modification will be much more interesting.

I will go back and look at Ionel Ciobanuc's HTML method again.  Good to hear the HTML timing was okay.  I'm back to rebuilding my 3D printer.  I agree that modifying the phone itself would be a very painful experience.

If I remember right, connecting to a smartphone gives access to technical info, such as display size and resolution, which would really help with configuring.

I still think a mobile app would be a good option as then nanoDLP could have all the direct control needed to handle the Android (and/or Apple) phone.

I do not know. But these are the same kind of display D7 and KLD 3d printers are using.

Shahin, not the same display. The D7 as well the Proniks, KLD, Soyo, etc. all use a 2K (2560 x 1440) 5.5" screen, although the most common one is also made by Sharp.

I have seen several of these control boards on the Alibaba sites.  The problem is, I have not been able to find somebody who is willing to sell just 1 item.  They say minimum order 1, but then you look at the shipping packaging and it shows they will ship 240 pieces minimum.  They mention an engineering sample in just 1 week, but they want to set up a contract for monthly purchases of 240 minimum.

However, if I am wrong or somebody does find a source that will sell just 1 4K UHD LCD screen, 1 cable and 1 control board then please post it.  I need it.

This is why I asked for a mobile app, because you can purchase the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium in the USA and at the moment it seems the only option.

Anybody else have information or ideas?

Well, Aliexpress is full of this 4K LCD panels where you can buy one piece only. I was looking for a larger printer between 13" and 15" LCD
For example:
HDMI controller 4K board
HDMI and DVI/DP controller 4k board
Another good controller
4k 15" LCD

I appreciate your feedback.

Unfortunately, I have yet to find a control board that is known to directly support the 5.5" LCD screen used by the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium.  The reason I want this specific LCD screen is that is has an amazing PPI of ~806 which translates to a pixel size of ~31.5 microns. A 5.5" build area is big enough for what I design and then print.

If anyone could describe how to use a larger LCD  (or AMOLED) that would have close to that resolution, I could use one of dorbar's suggested boards.  The MiiCraft 3D printer that I used had 56 micron resolution and it wasn't good enough.  If anyone has any suggestions for even better resolution I would love to hear about it.

That's why I suggested a mobile app to let nanoDLP control a smartphone.

I think the most easiest way to solve your problem is to ask for the manufacture of the sellers, of cause you can also search on the internet. However, before you pay for the one you want, I guess a useful buying guide for 4k projectors is necessary. I got a  Sony VPL-VW1100ES Native 4K Projector by the guide of comparison of 4k projectors and it works very well. Here is the comparison about 4k projectors which might do you some help.

The videos are interesting, but as you said, not much information.

I already have the board used in the video.

It was designed by Roberto Luo.  His company is www.confuindustries.com in China.  He is selling it now.

I still haven't been able to configure it though.  It works great on my HP laptop as a second monitor but I haven't been able to get it running on the Raspberry Pi 3.

If you get it working, could you contact me and give me access to your configuration files?
