Web Based Support Generator

I have put together simple manual support placement software. You can rotate pieces and put different kind of supports on model pretty quickly and export the result as STL.

http://www.nanodlp.com/support/

Welcome any advice or opinions.

Re: Web Based Support Generator

What about having a transparent plane attached to mouse. Which one do you prefer more and why?

Re: Web Based Support Generator

maybe one more is to add :

2) shape preview during adjust support sizes
3) add small icon to the stored preset.
4) add support with sphere on the top
5) add branch style support
6) auto base/footing with adjustable thickness depend on position and quantity of supports
7) merge together with slc2png and make downloadable standalone unit
I hope it not much for beginning
thanks to you Shahin  for  sharing such a great software !

I think it can be transparent , but better if it is not link to mouse ,
and have exactly move up / down same real print layers , the mouse during install support moving a lot around island ( sample pave prongs )
and dynamic  plane can make lost attention , but if it step static movement , you can control more simple / precise control  spaces between neighbor supports.
because   can see all islands .
better link it to the keyboard button up / down arrow
or any shortcut button .
one press one layer thickness

Re: Web Based Support Generator

DLprinter,

I have implemented 1, 2, 4, 6. They are not perfect but will do the job for now. Will improve them time to time.
What you mean by item 3?

Re: Web Based Support Generator

Shahin ,

Great step forward !

but I think better install support when look to model from floor view ,
now in this case cannot see cutting plane.

better if you invert default view , from top view

to bottom view .

3) add small icon to the stored preset.

I mark it in last picture

and do not use   angular limit movement of camera .

Re: Web Based Support Generator

there is two benefit of using ball in the end :
first is more delicate attach to surface compare with other ,
second is less chance to destroy surface when removing support

Re: Web Based Support Generator

Thank you for very informative replies.

I have added no 4 albeit with smaller limitation as you could not use cone shape as connector to sphere.
Regarding camera movement. I have fixed the issue on the beta version.

About plane and other issues I will try to fix them soon.

Re: Web Based Support Generator

Great first effort Shahin. Can you add an option to reverse the mouse rotation (i.e have the mouse rotate the object in the viewer instead of the camera)?

Re: Web Based Support Generator

Did something change between 1332 and release 1337? I was able to play with the add support options and get it to work but now I cannot add support no matter what i try. Nothing gets added where I click. I have tried safari and chrome.

Re: Web Based Support Generator

Browsers tend to cache static resources aggressively press ctrl+f5 to make sure you are using correct static files.

Now you can compose plates directly from NanoDLP.

Re: Web Based Support Generator

Thank you so much for the Plate feature. This is what I have been waiting for. Still needs a little work and some day auto arrange, but it is a great start. Don't know how easy it would be to select multiple files on the Plate View to import instead of one at a time then place them so they are not touching each other?

Re: Web Based Support Generator

Once you add parts on plate view it would be nice to still be able to go to the layout view to rotate the parts (more than just around Z). The models show on the right in the  list but the view shows nothing unless you import another part. Also would be nice to click a part and with a button or hotkey  be able to enter in values for rotation and move instead of using the mouse all the time.

Re: Web Based Support Generator

Great suggestions, thank you.

About keeping piece on viewport when user back to Layout View, issue is the placed supports must be removed.

So when user back to layout view. We can do couple of things
1. Do not display piece at all (current one)
2. Display but remove supports (I would hate to lose what I already have it there)
3. Display with support user should remove support manually.
4. Do not display piece at all but user could reload model without support of clicks on right side. (no sure I think it will pretty complex to grasp).

Re: Web Based Support Generator

Great performance Shahin !

at the moment I use grasshopper my own scripts  , for cutting plane
I not familiar with view drive motion in nano support Generator , I cant adjust my self to drive it ,
my wishing is ,  is  it  posibly make it  more look like  rhino or z-brush .
in my opinion Zbrush is the best driving space I ever used alt+ alt- Shift and so on
if you have a time pleas think about it smile

keep going on !

regards !
