D7 Can only get image on my original version from 2017

My D7 Wanhao has beeb dormant since I bought it and started to set it up with NANODLP in 2017, as I now want to use the printer.

So I decided to update to the latest raspberry pi stable download, however despite importing and checking my machine settings, I am unable to display any image on the D7 LCD.

I can connect the same cable to my TV/Monitor and the images (calibration images) and displayed perfectly, however on the wanhao LCD nothing is projected.

When I revert back to my 2017 version, the images ARE displayed on the Wanhao LCD panel.

I have tried exporting and importing my machine settings from my 2017 version into the current new build 4077, but even after a restart nothing is displayed.

When I power off / on my old (V1434) with the projector light on I can see the console log to the lcd, however on the latest version (4077) I see nothing at all.

I have spent a whole day debugging this and got no where at all. I have also tried matching the config.txt and cmdline.txt on the new version with my old version, but it makes no dirreference.

As soo as I unplug the cable from th ewanhao, and plug it into a monitor/tv everything displays as normal.

I have now run out of ideas !

Re: D7 Can only get image on my original version from 2017

Yup. This is a longstanding issue plaguing multiple users and the dev seems either clueless or uninterested in fixing it. Something has changed in Raspbian's videocore and he just assumed it would work instead of testing it. If you pay attention to the screen when you turn it on, and have the light on, you'll notice that the bootscroll is perfectly visible, meaning it's not linked to the HDMI timing settings at all.

So much of this software is unintuitively put together and just garbage to use. Hours upon hours of troubleshooting and tinkering with precisely 0 to show for it. Not helped by the fact that Shahin is the only person who seems to really know how it works and he's apparently not that interested in reliably responding to requests for help.

Thanks so much for your valuable feedback.

Is the project effectively dead ??? - I see a lot of new features have been added, but as you say not much attempt to get the exiting version working.

I tried an update from the 1434, but that just crashed.

Are you personally running a D7 and RPI with a later version ?

Re: D7 Can only get image on my original version from 2017

I'm running 2299, I got super lucky in that somebody had that copy lying around, since the dev seems completely uninterested in archiving older builds for troubleshooting purposes - and I too experienced the same problem you did. Software pushed me to upgrade, I did, and whoopsy-doodle, looks like somebody didn't test functionality and now my shit is broken.

Here's the link to that copy - https://www.dropbox.com/s/8cc0npl6w40a6 … p.img?dl=0

You will need to configure your screen timings again, if need be I can give you mine but the standard ones being used for the D7 should work.

And yeah, I would consider this software dead in the water until Shahin starts taking it seriously instead of just pushing updates for facebook clout.

I mean look at this, here's some spam that's been sitting there since yesterday and it hasn't been removed or dealt with in any way. Are there no moderators here? Is Shahin REALLY the only person who does everything? For a platform that is used by as many people as this is, that's pretty terrible. "Where is admin" indeed.

That's very good of you, thanks, have downloaded and will try it after lunch..

You screen timings would be helpful as I've not done anything for a couple of years and having to relearn again :-)

Pretty sure I'm using these ones. Got a test print running RN so I'm loathe to putty in and double-check, but let me know if they don't work and I'll do so when the print is done.

Re: D7 Can only get image on my original version from 2017

No worries man. I'm glad it worked, although I don't think any of us should have had to have gone to the lengths we did to get a working version.

Seriously. The total lack of a previous build archive is baffling. Github does it, hell even MINECRAFT does it, so what's Shahin's excuse? Maybe he should use some of the profits from that "official controller board" to host some select older builds, for troubleshooting in precisely these circumstances.

There IS a "downgrade" option in the software itself but it never works in my experience.

Yes, I see that he has the UI on github, was hoping it would all be there.

The only thing that I cannot get to work is the nextion display, that works on the latest image downloal, but not on the one you gave me.

I have enabled I2C in raspi config and also copied the pi3-miniuart-bt-overlay.dtb to the boot/overlays folder but it refuses to work.

Re: D7 Can only get image on my original version from 2017

Yeah that's one of the problems I ran into. Some functionality worked in one, some in the other, but not both at the same time. I figured the screen was a nice bonus but not core functionality the way the LCD screen was.

Arent't you meant to be disabling serial console and enabling serial interface, though? Not I2C?

Re: D7 Can only get image on my original version from 2017

I find myself thanking you yet again:-)

I assumed it was using the I2C bus, but you're correct it's using serial and is now working.

Many Thanks again, wasted a day yesterday and got nowhere, but achieved so much today :-)

Since you got yours working with the same build I'm using, I might try getting mine working again tomorrow.

Rubber,

Sorry I cannot checked the forum yesterday due to my day job!

Anyway, some displays does not work correctly with build 4077 up until latest build. Workaround is to use framebuffer or switch to latest beta/stable.

And are you gonna provide steps on how to do that? Or are you just gonna let us spend hours googling it and trying various things?

Low effort ain't the way to run this shit. If you know the solution, explain it in detail. That's your job as the guy who made this software. If you can't be bothered, step aside for someone who can.

Crankshaft,

Go to machine settings / display engine. Fill framebuffer input based on-screen help. Reboot.

Re: D7 Can only get image on my original version from 2017

@shahin - Thanks does the raspberry pi also need the config.txt to be set with the frame buffer size and hdmi timing, overrides etc etc ??

If so how do you find out what to set and what to set the values to ?

Many Thanks

Re: D7 Can only get image on my original version from 2017

It is highly depend on your display manufacturer but for framebuffer you need both hdmi settings and framebuffer to have correct values.
