NanoDLP Nextion Display Help (2020)

Hello everyone,

I am currently working on a custom 3D printer for my university and I am having trouble getting my 2.4" nextion hmi display to go past the "connecting printer..." screen. I tried both nanodlp.tft file and tibus.tft file and neither got me past the screen.

I followed the tutorial and steps on page 7 on the forum title "Touch screen for NanoDLP" and I still got nothing.

I think I am missing a step on the NanoSupport Setup page but as you can see on the old forum it has been updated since 2018. I think I am going wrong because I do not know where to input my nextion port address.

Thank you all for your help!
Billy

Re: NanoDLP Nextion Display Help (2020)

you dont need tibus- its outdated.

this one is the most current info  https://www.nanodlp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=2069

my advice- wipe the card and reflash the distro and add the files.

Re: NanoDLP Nextion Display Help (2020)

Following the tutorial laid out in the link and your advice, I get a dhcpcd5 error after trying to upgrade the pi and I can not find any documentation about how to fix this.
I am going through the serial setup and ttys0 method and have had no luck.

Thanks

Re: NanoDLP Nextion Display Help (2020)

are you using a pi3 or pi4?

if you are online now, you can jump over to the Fb site too -

https://www.facebook.com/groups/nanodlp/

might be easier to chat there

Re: NanoDLP Nextion Display Help (2020)

I am using a pi 3 model b+. And sadly I do not have a Fb but knowing that site exists is going to be a great help.

But the error that is coming through states that "changing ownership of '/etc/dhcpcd.conf': Operation not permitted
dpkg: error processing package dhcpcd5 (--configure):" so it might be a wifi issue and since I am on school internet via Ethernet I could not figure this out.

Thanks

Re: NanoDLP Nextion Display Help (2020)

this not a nanodlp issue but a raspi issue
does the device have authority to join the domain?

1. did you wipe the card and do a fresh install?
2. did you do the sudo raspi-config  steps shown in the guide i linked?
3. after you enable and set up netowrking, ic2 and ssh do a updage and upgrade

then make sure you can ssh to the pi via bitvise or putty

EDIT: you school probably has a Linux user group, you might want to get help there to get the raspi connected. once you do that, then we can help you get going with nanoDLP. I am not trying to brush you off, but campus LAN might best be handled with local folks instead of some random internet people.

Re: NanoDLP Nextion Display Help (2020)

Hello there again,

I am still stuck on getting the nextion to go with my nanodlp. Included below is a command that I was instructed to use for helping troubleshoot. I recently also enabled i2c arm connections.

pi@raspberrypi:~ $ dmesg | grep tty
[    0.000910] console [tty0] enabled
[    0.794571] 3f201000.serial: ttyAMA0 at MMIO 0x3f201000 (irq = 81, base_baud = 0) is a PL011 rev2
[    5.834550] systemd[1]: Created slice system-getty.slice.
[    7.816217] usb 1-1.3: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB0

Thanks for your help

Re: NanoDLP Nextion Display Help (2020)

Did you follow steps 8 and 9 in the tutorial to assign the port for the Nextion Screen?

Barring that, is your wiring correct? Step 6?

Remember that TX on one device needs to go to RX on the other device.

Also, please consider starting and maintaining 1 thread for overall help. Your other thread and this are overlapping, and if you are unclear about some things, you will get confused by the multiple efforts to help you. .

Re: NanoDLP Nextion Display Help (2020)

Sinned,

I have tried the tutorial to no avail.
Wiring is the same as the diagram in the tutorial.
I will double check wiring specific when I get back to the nextion and look and double check the TX and RX. That is very good advice.
Still only get connecting to printer.

Also, I am trying to keep one for nextion and one for marlin. Sorry for doing so but you guys both seem like experts in the respective topics!
