64b Linux Host and Client on Same PC

Can nanodlp be the host of nanodlp and the user interface (client) on the same PC?

I have installed the latest nanodlp (actually any build we tried over 2101, 2302 is the latest version tried) for 64b Linux on ArchLinux since it has a new enough version of GlibC.

I can run nanodlp and access it from the local host 127.0.0.1:8080. I have one 4K monitor connected and one 4K projector connected and operational.

However after nanodlp has taken over the projector, and as soon as I click the mouse or keyboard (alt - tab) on the monitor, the projector stops displaying any test/calibration or print slices on the projector and displays a desktop. You can't get the projector back on nanodlp until you restart nanodlp.

I can't use a Rpi since I require reliable 4K displays and am slicing large >1Gbyte files. Even when the pi3 is set with hdmi_drive=11 using HDMI 2.0 cables 1ft long the projector will lose signal and ruin a print by projecting the resync/signal found/no signal box.

Re: 64b Linux Host and Client on Same PC

I just tried the Windows version of nanodlp build 2314 on Win10 and there is a similar problem.

I open a browser to access at 127.0.0.1:8080 and click on "Start Display".  The projector screen now displays layers while printing or calibration patterns. If you click on the notification in the taskbar that another window has opened (nanodlp image viewer) then you can't click the mouse or any key on the keyboard without killing the projectors nanodlp display. The projector will not display print layers or calibration patterns again until you restart nanodlp.

Linux version tested on ubuntu. Maybe it is because of the Arch, as linux user I do not experience the same issue.
It should display layers correctly probably it do not get focused correctly. Have you tried using alt+tab to switch back?

You can use pi4 it should be good enough for 4K.

alt+tab breaks naodlp's control of the projector screen in Arch and Gentoo. You lose it and you can't get it back until you restart nanodlp. Friends don't let friends run Ubuntu smile.

Re: 64b Linux Host and Client on Same PC

Just tested on Ubuntu Desktop 19.04 and when the projector display is turned on the cursor remains on the display while projecting test patterns or printing slices. Any other advice?

Move it to the first display or under screen. Removing mouse pointer would cause lots of trouble for users. Let me know if you have suggestion to improve how it works.

If nanodlp was open source we could help. We are an OEM and we were testing it out to see if we could use it on reliable industrial hardware vs hobby/toy electronics.

I know guys who are deploying nanodlp on high end products using linux desktop version. But not sure what kind of method they use.
