So I format the sd card but when I install the image on to the card using either win32 disk imager or etcher and when its done it immediately tells me to format. If I say no i'm left with a H: drive (the one I started with with only 256mb originally a 32gb card) and a I: drive that's unreadable. I've looked over videos but cannot find anyone with my problem. Either advice or a link to help me figure this out would be greatly appreciated.

I am not windows user but it sounds ok. I: should not be readable as it is ext4 and windows could not read. See if it boots using pi.
