Jump step purpose

Been searching and haven't found much useful information of the use of jump step.

Whats the main usage for this feature?
Assuming its necessary what are optimal settings and why?
How come nanodlp team hasn't documented this feature?

For the support area, lets say the first 100 layers for example, as quality is not a concern you can skip layers, for example instead of curing every single layer for 2s, you can do every other layer on support area for 3s and save time on printing.
