It seems the i2c display is getting cleared whenever you do some action in the web interface.
and is there a gcode that can write text to the display?
And would it be possible to send some text when shutting down - and perhaps even on boot?

It should not get cleared, yes it is possible to add gcode to send text i2c display. But very few people integrate i2c displays right now, to add deeper integration.

When you click submit on the setup tab, then it gets cleared - just tried it...
And then i dont know how to get it back, unless i reboot the PI

For the setup page yes, it reinitialize connection to the LCD.
