Controlling a Z axis from a re-purposed printer -- dual Melzi Z?

Hi,

I'm building a DLP resin printer and I have the projector as well as an FDM printer to print my flexvat.

While testing, I'm interested in just using my current FDM printer's Z axis connected to my vat/bed to move the Z axis. The printer is a Monoprice maker select v2 (wanhao duplicator) with a Melzi board. Is there any way I can get NanoDLP to talk to the printer to issue step commands to Z? I also put on custom firmware that I connect to OctoPi, klipper, so if there's a way to just get NanoDLP to trigger sending move gcode to the klipper service it should be able to move the Z.

OTHERWISE: Should I Just look into getting a RAMPS Board and connecting the dual Z steppers to it? Then, once I settle on a Z axis design, I can use that RAMPS board to control the printer that I'll eventually build.

Thanks.
