How to turn off auto updates completely ?

I would like to turn off auto updates and all the system checks for any available updates, I have recently problems with my main broadband and when the internet is down nanodlp still trying to checks for updates what make whole interface very unresponsive

Theoretically it should not makes your interface slow as it one time update which will fails in couple of seconds on different threads. Some of the router switches have issue of slow down on even local traffic when internet is not available.

But I have no problem with access to other devices in my network, few servers here and all no problems except raspberry pi, now my internet is back and pi is no problem anymore, but would like to fix it permanently
