Request auto rotation....an internal support

I would love a feature to generate optimum rotation/position with respect to the plate.

I can think of two possible choices...

a rotation that reduces the number of supports...this might work in conjunction with the auto support maybe by brute force of trying several rotations and the computing support requirements.

A similar optimization that instead minimizes the largest cross section found on any layer.

There might be more possibilities these are just two that I use when setting things up manually.

A second feature would be the option to include internal support for hollow objects or objects that NanoSuppot hollows for you (I guess that would be a third feature but is already in nanoDLP)

Thanks for all the hard work!

Re: Request auto rotation....an internal support

Both features are on our roadmap. We are focused on auto support right now. It will take time as it is pretty difficult to get close to ideal result from kind of feature. Hopefully we can increase our feature throughput after finishing it.

Re: Request auto rotation....an internal support

I have been printing for some time and some auto support generators are clearly better than others...
Hoping NanoSupport becomes one of the best...:)

I'd like to suggest a support type that is 'simple' to use and somewhat easy to implement...I think.
When I make models that I know needs support, I sometimes build it into the model.

A mechanism I have used is a simple grid under the area that needs support.
I have a parameter to specify the grid spacing and wall thickness and max Z, also if I a .5mm complete bottom layer.
I have code that generates a block of grid material then from that block I subtract the model...usually I inflate the model x,y by 1mm before subtracting
so there is no grid contact on the sides of the model but the Z touches the model..
Obviously the inflation is done only to compute the support, model is actually printed normal size.
This results in a fairly light structure that can be removed with out too much trouble.

Typically I use 5 mm spacing with a .2 vertical thickness.

Re: Request auto rotation....an internal support

Darren,
Thank you for the feedback.

How do you compare current feeling of nanosupport compare to other programs you are using?

Re: Request auto rotation....an internal support

right now...
I use ChiTuBox (I have used others but their interfaces were needlessly obtuse)... for what it is, it is hard to beat....it does have a few bugs and annoyances still.

NanoSupport is not bad but until auto support works well it is hard to compare.
I use a Mac the interface on NanoSupport is a bit odd and kinda primitive feeling.
And for some reason it is not very smooth, sometimes things just disappear, in general the latest GUI update has helped.
One thing that might help is to rethink the scroll and drag controls and generally slow things down a bit, they should not lag but nor should they jump around wildly.
If export to nanoDLP worked that would be a big plus for nanoSupport...it has never worked for me and I assumed it is just not done yet.
Manual support seems comparable but I like the extra options in ChiTuBox to control the support structure.
I would prefer either larger more explicative icons or names under the icon....waiting for pop-ups is a pain...eventually I would learn but again I don't use it that much.
I don't like how the default placement of my objects is not on the bed in NS.
Rotation doesn't seem to work right either....making it hard to really test much.

In general I think NanoSupport has potential but it is still too unfinished for me to spend alot of time with it.

I try every release and it is almost to the point I could use it more regularly...I expect the next release will be close enough really work with.

Thanks for the work..

Re: Request auto rotation....an internal support

Thank you for the insight. We are working hard to improve things.

NanoDLP export must work, probably it is firewall issue but it still should be usable by entering IP of nanodlp manually.
